Pence: 'Cap-and-Trade' Prescription for Economic Decline

Indiana Republican Rep. Mike Pence tells Newsmax that the Democrats’ “cap-and-trade” plan to reduce carbon emissions is a “prescription for economic decline.”

Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, also said he hopes bipartisan “common sense” will prevail and defeat the plan — and called recently deceased former Congressman Jack Kemp “my hero.”

Newsmax.TV’s Ashley Martella noted that Rep. Pence has been in the front line in the fight against the cap-and-trade plan, and asked why he has called the proposal “a declaration of economic war on the Midwest.”

“Indiana would be one of the states hardest hit by the Democrats’ so-called cap-and-trade legislation, focusing as it does on coal-burning power plants that predominate across the Midwest,” Pence responded.

“Not only will the cap and trade bill result in higher utility rates for all Americans, but that burden will fall most harshly on states across the Midwest like Indiana.

“We’ve been trying to be very candid with people about that and help people count the cost of this global warming legislation, and the real impact that it will have on our beleaguered economies in the heartland of this nation.”

Martella asked why Pence said people on the East and West Coasts would be the least impacted by cap and trade when an independent study concluded that every American would have to pay more than $3,000 a year in additional energy costs.

The estimate of $3,128 per household was derived from a study that determined the amount of revenue the federal government would generate from the cap-and trade-legislation, Pence explained. Republicans then divided that number by the number of households.

“The truth is, that’s an average,” he added. “The reality is that states like Indiana, where we get more than 90 percent of our energy from fossil fuels, that states across the Midwest would bear a much harsher burden than states in the Northeast or along the West Coast.”

Pence cited remarks Barack Obama made in an interview when he was campaigning for president.

“At that time he said, quote, ‘Under my plan of cap and trade, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.’”

Martella asked if Republicans would try to team up with moderate Democrats to derail the cap-and-trade plan.

“You bet. Our hope is that common sense when it comes to environmental legislation will be a bipartisan condition on Capitol Hill this year,” the congressman said.

“I think there’s a strong possibility we can stop this legislation and replace it with an energy strategy the centerpiece of which would be a return to the construction of nuclear power plants — but above all an energy strategy that would send us in the direction of an environmentally responsible pathway to energy independence.”

Is the effort to open up more areas to offshore drilling now dead in the water? Martella asked.

“It’s only dead in the water among Democrats on Capitol Hill. The American people want more access to American oil,” Pence declared.

“The Republicans are going to come forward with a comprehensive energy alternative that will include more domestic exploration for oil and natural gas. It will include a commitment to nuclear power and new nuclear power plants. It will include a commitment to renewables, to wind and solar. And ultimately we believe that strategy will be welcomed and hailed by the American people.”

As chairman of the House GOP American Energy Solutions Group, Pence said he and his colleagues will seek to meet with officials and ordinary citizens “who know that this-cap-and-trade legislation is the wrong approach and would be a prescription for economic decline for the average American, as well as the average American employer.”

Pence was close to the late Jack Kemp, a nine-term congressman and former Housing Secretary. Martella asked what made Kemp so special in Pence’s eyes.

“As someone who has followed Jack Kemp into the role of House Republican Conference Chairman, I can tell you one of the great privileges of my nearly nine years in Congress was that Jack Kemp, my hero, became my personal friend and mentor, and I will miss him very dearly,” Pence said.

“I have from time to time referred to myself as a Jack Kemp Republican. That’s because I see his optimism, his belief in free markets, entrepreneurial capitalism, his belief in equality of opportunity, and his commitment to traditional moral values to be very much in the mainstream of the values that carried our party to the White House in 1980 and carried our party to a majority in 1994.

“And as our party goes looking for a way forward, I believe we need look no further than the integrity, the optimism and the American idealism of Jack Kemp.”

Geez do you think this happened anywhere else???????????????

ACORN Charged with Vote Fraud

LAS VEGAS -- Nevada authorities are accusing the political advocacy group ACORN and two former employees of illegally paying canvassers to sign up new voters last year.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto filed charges Monday alleging the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now had policies requiring employees in Las Vegas to sign up 20 new voters per day or be fired.

Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller and Masto say that's voter registration fraud, and it violates state law banning quotas for registering new voters.

A criminal complaint filed in Las Vegas Justice Court accuses ACORN and two former employees of 39 low-level felonies.

ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson in New York blames rogue former employees for the allegations. He says ACORN will fight the charges in court.

In these economic times, the following  is not something the older American's need right now. Most are on fixed income's and with all that the Government is trying to tax and screw us with, they cannot find money to fund Social Security? Yet it ok to give a guy who is fired or resigns from one of the Banks that the Government basically owns a 20 Million Dollar Golden Parachute?

Something's wrong with this picture...hmm picture...no disgrace....

Anyone up for a trip to Washington to look into Bella Pelosi's eyes and ask her the question if she really NEVER heard the word WaterBoarding, regarding our techniques to get info from the terrorists.

Maybe she was confused, maybe she thought they were talking about surfing. I mean she comes from California, you never know. Get out you wax gang we are in for a ride of our lives again on this deal expecially if they intend to bring this to a hearing or a trial.  Yet with all the Botox, I don't know if you could really visually see if she was lying. Or maybe we should save us all this trouble and put Bella in "Madame Tussauds" Wax Museum..and just get rid of her in Congress... Just love this tongue guy...he's the best!!!!

THE FOUNDATION

"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." --Thomas Jefferson

INSIGHT

"The government of the absolute majority is but the government of the strongest interests; and when not effectively checked, is the most tyrannical and oppressive that can be devised... [To read the Constitution is to realize that] no free system was ever farther removed from the principle that the absolute majority, without check or limitation, ought to govern." --American statesman John C. Calhoun (1782-1850)

"Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it." --Jewish philosopher Maimonides (1135-1204)

"There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived, and treats him accordingly." --American author and poet Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)

Pelosi Briefed On Waterboarding Repeatedly

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi learned in early 2003 that the Bush administration was using waterboarding to interrogate a terrorist detainee, an inside source has told Politico.

The assertion refutes Pelosi's statement last month that she was never told about the use of waterboarding.

Pelosi has disputed a CIA document released last week showing she was briefed in September 2002 that interrogators were waterboarding terrorist Abu Zubaydah. Pelosi, who was then the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has said she was told only that the Bush administration was considering using certain interrogation techniques in the future.

But Politico maintains that "there's no dispute that on Feb. 4, 2003 — five months after Pelosi's September meeting — CIA officials briefed Pelosi aide Michael Sheehy and Rep. Jane Harman . . . on the specific techniques that had been used on Zubaydah — including waterboarding."

Harman, who was by then the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, drafted a letter to the CIA's general counsel to express her concerns with the interrogation tactic and asking if waterboarding had been approved by the president.

According to the Politico source, Sheehy told Pelosi about the briefing and later informed her that Harman was drafting the letter. Pelosi asked Sheehy to tell Harman that she agreed with the sentiments expressed in the letter, but did not ask to be listed as a signatory.

The source, who spoke to Politico on the condition of anonymity, said: "She felt that the appropriate response was the letter from Harman, because Jane was the one who was briefed." Pelosi "never got briefed on it personally, and when Harman got a 'no response' from the CIA, there was nothing more that could be done."

Republicans "aren't buying it," Politico observed.

"If Nancy was so concerned about the waterboarding, why did she let someone else write the letter?" asked Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, the ranking Republican on the Intelligence Committee.

Hoekstra last week said he wasn't ruling out hearings to find out what members of congress knew and when they knew it.

Geez who is telling the Truth, my beat Bella is lying....

  Obama in the British Media

Date: Thursday, May 7, 2009, 8:00

The Brits see right through Obama & are not afraid to say so.   It's too bad that the media in the U.S. is just part of Obama's cheerleading squad, with just a few exceptions.

TELEGRAPH.CO.UK

WRITTEN BY: GERALD WARNER

IS IT JUST ME?

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama's problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.

That is why he opened Pandora's Box by publishing the Justice Department's legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda.

"Don't be discouraged by what's happened the last few weeks," he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them - or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.

So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers...

President Pantywaist's recent world tour, cosying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America's enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners. His only enemies are fellow Americans. Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

"The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse."

--James Madison, speech in the Virginia constitutional convention, December 2, 1829

That's ALL governments at ALL levels, no exceptions.

And this from NH's own Mark Stein;

Obviously I am not a Obama fan by any means. But I would not like anything to happen to him. But God forbid it does this is what we will be left with Biden.......see below

1. Biden Reveals Location of Secret 'Undisclosed Location'

Vice President Joe Biden has done it again.

Biden, who has a history of verbal blunders, has revealed the existence of a secret bunker intended to house the vice president in case of a national emergency or attack.

According to Newsweek magazine's Eleanor Clift, Biden let the secret slip at the recent Gridiron Club dinner, and annual event attended by media members and high-power politicians. Clift reports that Biden admitted to those at his table that the bunker is located beneath the vice president's official residence, located at the U.S. Naval Observatory near Washington, D.C.

It is likely that former Vice President Dick Cheney was hidden in the bunker - referred to as an "undisclosed location" - in the confusing aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

Newsweek's story asserts that Biden "said a young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment.

"The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

This is hardly the first time Biden has raised eyebrows with an off-the-cuff remark. Most recently, he was criticized for encouraging Americans to avoid airline travel during the swine flu scare.

He needs a muzzle on his mouth or his lips stapled close..OMG what an idiot...

JCarpo:

OMG too funny, you just ruined my day...hahahahahahahaha can you just imagine. If she winds up going to some trial or something for this, her plastic, injected face will melt, like the Wicked Witch of the West. She will melt.  And if Biden who I am sure will get it from Obama will most likely lose all those nice new hair plugs he has planted on his head..Head hmmmm there is supposed to be a brain in a head. I think his head is somewhere else, like a place that the sun does not shine..the thought of it alone makes me want to go to the emergency room due to panic attacks....hahahaha have a nice night.
