| #16 | Thanks Cobbetts Pond Gestapo. You kept yet another parking lot from draining into the pond and likely prevented someone from getting killed crossing Range Road. Now we need someone in this town with enough courage to take away some of the play area and turn it into parking so that Range Road doesn't become lined with cars anymore. Have you ever seen two dump trucks come face to face on Range Road while cars and people line both sides of the road? How about two tractor trailers? How about a dump truck, a tractor trailer and a kid on a bicycle or a skate board? Instead of spending money on lights, we'd do much better to expand the parking within the natural boundaries of the park before somebody dies on Range Road. Windham has a reputation for providing inadequate parking at pretty much every town facility. The first time somebody gets hurt while parked on Range Road because there was no room at the park we'll have our wallets sued off. Our own blind committment to GAMES will have brought it on. You know what they say, "it's all fun and games until somebody gets killed". |

| #17 | Let's look at the "McProjects" and their status:
Private Water Company for Mesiti (on town land!): Failed Commercial Development via Citizens Petitions: Failed Parking Lot at Griffin: Failed Lights at Griffin: Failed Esplanade at Griffin: Failed High School Access Road: Disaster!
Need we say anymore?

Why do you think the lights at Griffin has failed? I thought it was supposed to be discussed at the next selectman's meeting .. no? |

| #19 | WindhamAccountability, Please help me understand how you have surmised that all those projects are 1)Mcprojects 2)failed. Private water company for mesiti? If I recall, that town voted in favor of this and Mcmahon was not even on the Board of Selectmen. 2)I agree it failed 3)The owner withdrew his donation after being harassed by CPIA folks. I will say it was a specific few from CPIA. Also If I recall, the town voted in favor for this project. 4)Baseball put the squash on that, which I think was a good thing. There is enough problems at the park already. 5)The esplanade as you call it, had the unanimous support of the Board of Selectmen as Long as Mcmahon raised the money to build it. I am also glad that this project has not happened. 6)If it is a Disaster, Blame your friendly School Board!!!!
Just my thoughts. |

Although I would like to blame the SB, as previously documented, the BOS took it upon themselves to build the road continuation and was very active in transforming the primary access. What started out as a 'driveway' [exaggerating I know] to a school, was morphed into a town road attempting to do it with state school funding under the HS building project. The way I feel about it is that the tax payers were duped much like the school board as we voted for bonds/funding for a project with the understanding that 30% of the bond principle will come back from the state. |

It's all about the money don't cha know. Those new houses by Castleton will generate lots of tax dollars while that parking lot across from Griffin park will only generate maintenance costs, like all the other "GIFTS" the town gets. |

Thanks. You proved my point. The cockemamie drainage story was nothing but a smoke screen. TOTAL BS. |

Not so not you.
Raising revenue from real estate taxes is what the town does. Allowing those houses by Castleton created taxable property and hence had a positive impact on the town's wallet (our wallet). That parking lot would have taken real estate out of the revenue producing stream and created yet another liability for the town.
What drains into the pond is a serious concern as water quality in the pond has been in decline for decades. That the gestapo was able to stop it (IMHO) was a wonderful thing. While I'm sure the annual property tax on the proposed parking lot property isn't much and it would have cost us more than that amount to maintain it.
From what I could see of those houses by Castleton most of the run off from there goes out to rt. 111. |

Actually isn't this true only if they have a single child or no children? I did the calculation once and I believe it would take 20+ years for the 'average family' in the 'average Windham house' to pay into the system what it costs to put their kids through the school system. I know these are not 'average houses', but I'm sure you would agree that it depends.... A parking lot may actually net more money :-)

| #30 | Another reason why I can't understand spending millions of our tax dollars on sports.
How many large and expensive homes in town are owned by childless families? What do they get out of the millions we spend on sports facilities? |
